In the Chitral district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, the Kalash or Kalasha are the only pagan group. The smallest minority group in Pakistan’s Islamic Republic. While there were once over 200,000 Kalash people, there are currently only a few thousand to 4,000 Kalash people left. The Kalashas live in the Rumbur, Brumbret, and Birir valleys of Chitral. The Rumbur and Brumbret form a single culture due to their comparable cultural practices, however the Birir, who are the most traditional, form a separate civilization.
