Multan is a city in Punjab, Pakistan. Multan, Pakistan’s 7th largest city and the main cultural and commercial centre of Southern Punjab, is situated on the Chenab River’s banks. Multan has a long history dating back to antiquity.
Multan is one of the Asian subcontinent’s oldest cities. It’s on the left bank of the Chenab River, one of the Indus’ tributaries, in the Indus River Valley. Multan was named after one of Sino bin Canaan’s sons, Noah’s grandson, after the Great Flood. According to Hindu legend, it was the capital of the Trigarta Kingdom, controlled by the Katoch Dynasty, at the time of the Mahabharata battle. The current name comes from the Sanskrit name Mulasthana, which refers to a sun temple. Multan has long been a battleground due to its location on the main invasion route between South Asia and Central Asia. Alexander is thought to have been visited.
