Ghizer is located at the northernmost part of the Northern Areas, and hence in the far north of the country. It is located to the northwest of the Wakhan strip and on China’s northern borders. On the west is the Chitral District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and on the east is Gilgit. The Diamer District is located to the south, and it is once again a part of the northern areas. Ghizer’s district capital is Gakuch.
The Gupis served as a barrier between the Yasin and Phander valleys. It is the meeting point for all valleys, including Phandar, Yasin, and Poniyal. The valley is surrounded by the country’s greatest mountain ranges, including the Hindu Kush and the Karakorum.
